Do I qualify to apply for Personal Car Leasing or Business Car Leasing?

To apply and drive any leased vehicle, you need to hold a full UK driving licence.

Does the monthly rental change during a leasing contract?

Your monthly rental will remain fixed at the price agreed at the beginning of your leasing contract for the duration of the agreement unless the rate of VAT or Road Fund Licence changes. In those cases we reserve the right to either charge the excess or amend the monthly rental.

Do I have to pay for the Road Fund Licence on my leased car?

The road fund licence is included in the monthly repayments for the duration of the leasing agreement. The contract hire company will renew your road fund licence and forward it to you before your current vehicle licence expires.

Can I change my estimated mileage that has been agreed and is contained in the leasing contract?

Whilst we encourage individuals to take out car leasing contracts that are appropriate to their circumstances, we appreciate that there are times when circumstances change. You can, subject to the contract hire company’s agreement, alter the mileage estimate in the contract. This may alter the monthly costs that have been agreed in the leasing contract.

Do I need to arrange my own car insurance?

You need to arrange your own comprehensive car insurance before you take delivery of the car.

Can I make an initial larger deposit at the start of the leasing contract if I want to?

If you wish to make a larger initial deposit you can. This will reduce your monthly payments in line with the additional initial payment.

What is covered under a car maintenance contract if I take this out?

All routine car servicing, tyres, battery, exhaust and parts are covered in a maintenance contract. If you take the maintenance package you ensure that all car servicing costs and parts are covered for the duration of your agreement. Authorised car dealers defined by the contract hire company can carry out servicing under this agreement.

What would not be covered by my car maintenance contract?

Accident damage and vandalism are not covered. This includes windscreen damage. In addition, any damage not considered to be fair wear and tear will be chargeable. The contract hire company can arrange for the repair of this damage, but you will be re-charged.

What is considered fair wear and tear?

As keeper of the vehicle you are responsible to make sure that it is cared for throughout its life with you. Damage that is not a result of fair wear and tear will be recharged to you when the vehicle is returned or in the case of tyre replacement, at the time replacement tyres are authorised.

The details set out below conform to the BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) guidelines on “Fair Wear and Tear”. Please read them carefully and familiarise yourself with the terms that you will also find in your contract.

Taking into account a vehicle’s age and mileage covering overall condition, from the mechanics and the electrics through to the bodywork and the upholstery, fair wear and tear summarises the degree of deterioration judged to be reasonable when a vehicle is returned at the end of a contract period.

Lack of attention to detail, abuse or neglect is the main reason vehicles suffer from excessive wear and tear.

The top causes of unreasonable wear and tear in a vehicle are:
  • Lack of regular checks by the vehicle user, leading to faults and damage going undetected and un-repaired;
  • Not adhering to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended maintenance and servicing schedule;
  • Drivers not taking responsibility for the day to day care and maintenance of the vehicle;
  • Poor quality of body repairs, leading to general neglect.

Some amount of fair wear and tear damage may occur through normal, everyday use, especially for high mileage vehicles.

For example, after a typical life span of three years or 60,000 miles, stone chips and minor abrasions to a vehicle’s paintwork would be deemed fair wear and tear for its age and would not affect the disposal price.

If the stone chip damage had exposed the base metal, however, and failure to touch it up had caused penetrating rust to set in, the deterioration would not be acceptable as fair wear and tear.

Dents to the bodywork, accident repair which has not been correctly carried out, cigarette burns, tears, rips and cuts in the upholstery, carpets and head lining are not considered fair wear and tear and will be charged to you at cost.

Can I keep the car at the end of the leasing agreement?

With a car leasing or contract hire agreement, you are the registered keeper of the car, not its owner. This means that you have the advantage of just giving the car back at the end of the agreement and choosing a new one, without incurring the disadvantage of depreciation of value over the contract term, and without having to make a final balloon payment.

We will contact you three months before the end of your leasing agreement to discuss the replacement of your existing car with a brand new one.

Can I terminate my leasing contract before the end of the agreement?

Yes you can terminate the leasing contract before the end of the agreed term, but we do advise against this, as there are termination charges that will be incurred.
